How a project actually works

Commissioning custom interiors

Custom joinery, curtains and finishes are decisions most people make a few times in their lives. This is what the process should look like and what to ask at each stage.

How the price gets worked out

Each service page shows a published starting price, and those figures are entry prices: standard materials and specification. They are a starting point, not a quotation.

The final figure depends on measurements, materials, finishes and design complexity, which is why the quotation comes after an on-site visit.

  • Curtains and blinds — priced per window after laser measurement
  • Wardrobes, wallpaper and ceilings — priced per square metre, then itemised
  • Media walls, dressing units and fit-outs — priced per project or unit after drawings
  • Upholstery — free inspection first, then a quote for the specific pieces

What a good quotation contains

A quote that is only a total is hard to compare. A useful quotation is itemised: what is being made, from which materials, with which hardware, and what is included in installation.

If two quotes differ materially, the difference is usually in what was left out — lining quality, hardware brand, lighting, or removal of old items.

  • Materials and finishes named, not just described as 'standard'
  • Hardware brand, such as the make of soft-close hinges and runners
  • Lighting and electrical work: included or excluded
  • Installation and removal of existing items
  • What the written warranty covers

Questions worth asking

These are not trick questions. Anyone doing the work properly will have ready answers, and asking them improves the conversation.

  • Will you measure with a laser and give me drawings before anything is made?
  • Where is it made, and who installs it?
  • Can I see physical samples in my own room?
  • What is and is not covered by the warranty?
  • How long does it take, and what does that depend on?

What happens on installation day

Installation is done by the team that works with the workshop, with floors and furniture protected and the site cleaned afterwards.

Walk through the finished work with the installer before they leave. Doors and drawers should close softly, lights should work, and any snagging should be noted at that point.
